DMV Substance Abuse Treatment Program
Danbury
In November 2008, MCCA began a new program called the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) Substance Abuse Program. This program will provide education to those individuals who have been arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
MCCA is committed to helping each client complete the requirements of the law as stated in the CT General Statutes. Upon completion of the program, MCCA recommends to the State of Connecticut that driving privileges be restored. This educational program is divided into four sections, as mandated by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles. Those four phases include evaluation, a weekend retreat, an aftercare program and a follow-up and monitoring phase.
When referred to MCCA’s DMV Program, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor will evaluate each client. Respect and confidentiality are two key components of this phase. Next is the weekend retreat that is a very intensive counseling program. The program provides housing, materials and meals for this phase. Clients will gain information and training that will allow for both education and a deeper understanding of their behaviors.
After completion of the weekend retreat, all participants will attend outpatient groups and AA meetings, as needed to complete the DMV program requirements. This phase of the program will occur during the five months following the weekend retreat. While attending group sessions, participants will find these sessions educational, informative and a sharing experience.
In the final stage of this program, participants are required to attend four outpatient group sessions and AA meetings. At the end of six months each successful participant will receive completion certificates and a recommendations for license restoration.
Successful completion certificates will be awarded ONLY to individuals who complete the required participation, cooperate with the program rules, abide by the abstinence and AA attendance requirements as set forth in each individual treatment plan.
