The Sobering Center

The Sobering Center is a 16-bed Social Setting Detoxification program providing temporary shelter to medically indigent individuals 18 years of age or older with a substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health disorders.

 The Goal of the Sobering Center

 Our goal is to provide a safe, substance free, therapeutic, non-medical respite for the chemically dependent individual upon waiting to be referred and placed into the next appropriate continuum of care.

Admission Criteria

  • Screened For Appropriateness and Eligibility
  • Male/Female
  • 18 Years or older
  • Medically Stable
  • Psychiatrically Stable

  • Motivational Counseling
  • Intensive Outpatient
  • Individual Counseling
  • Daily Reflections Meetings
  • Wrap-Up Meetings
  • Life Skills Groups
  • Outside AA Meetings
  • Outside NA Meetings
  • 12 Steps to Faith Meeting
  • Recreational Activities

Services

  • Assistance obtaining Connecticut State Assisted General Aid (SAGA)
  • Medical consultation, as needed
  • Psychiatric consultation, as needed
  • Access to discreet and confidential HIV/STD testing
  • Case Management Services
  • Continuing care and referral services
  • Transportation arranged via Columbus House for SAGA clients

In conjunction with local organizations the SOBERING CENTER also provides:

  • Medicaid approved
  • MCCA participates in the General Assistance Behavioral Health Program
  • Sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify
