Does My Loved One Have a Problem with Addiction?

If you are unsure as to whether your family member or friend has a problem with drugs or alcohol, the following questions can serve as a guide:

  1. Does your loved one have relationship problems?  Do they seem to have a bad track record when it comes to relationships?
  2. Is your loved one having difficulty focusing on their primary responsibilities (work, school)?
  3. Have you noticed a change in your loved one’s friends? Or are they being secretive about who they are hanging out with?
  4. Do they seem lonely?  Have they started to isolate themselves?
  5. Are your loved one’s friends having a negative influence on them?  Does it appear as though your loved one is being taken advantage of?
  6. Has your loved one experienced any legal problems recently?
  7. Has your loved one’s personal hygiene diminished?
  8. Have you seen a loss or gain in weight in your loved one?
